Civil Litigation

Supporting you with information and help on all Civil legal matters

Civil Litigation can be a very stressful time and at Bruen & Co. our aim is to make your experience as easy as possible. Here are some of the areas that we cover:

  • Personal Injury Claims* – Applications to InjuriesBoard.ie: In Ireland, personal injury claims are commonly dealt with through the Injuries Resolution Board, formally known as the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB). This board provides an independent assessment of personal injury compensation claims for victims of accidents, such as workplace incidents, road traffic accidents or public liability cases. Applicants submit their claims through the Injuries Board website (InjuriesBoard.ie), which facilitates a streamlined process for resolving disputes and providing fair compensation to injured parties.
  • Liability for Defective Products – Proceedings for breach of Sale of Goods and Supply of Services: Irish consumer law provides protection for consumers who purchase defective products or services. Under the Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Act, consumers have legal recourse if they purchase faulty goods or services that do not meet the standards outlined in the legislation. This may involve legal proceedings to seek compensation or resolution for breaches of consumer rights, ensuring that individuals are not left financially disadvantaged by defective products or services.

* In contentious business, a Solicitor may not calculate fees or other charges as a percentage or proportion of any award or settlement.

  • Road Traffic Offences – Offences relating to drink driving, speeding, challenging penalty points, no tax or insurance: Road traffic offences are a significant concern in Ireland, with laws in place to regulate and enforce safe driving practices. Common offences include drink driving, speeding, driving without tax or insurance and challenging penalty points issued for traffic violations. Irish authorities enforce strict penalties for these offences to ensure road safety and deter dangerous driving behaviour. Legal representation may be sought to challenge penalties, defend against allegations, or mitigate the consequences of traffic offences.
  • Licensing Applications – Applications for Ordinary seven-day Licence, Off-Licence, Special Exemptions: Licensing applications in Ireland cover a wide range of activities, including the sale and consumption of alcohol. Businesses or individuals seeking to obtain licenses for various purposes, such as operating a pub or selling alcohol for off-site consumption, must adhere to regulatory requirements set out by the relevant authorities. This includes applying for different types of licenses, such as the Ordinary seven-day Licence for pubs, Off-Licences for retail alcohol sales or Special Exemptions for specific events or circumstances. Proper legal guidance is often necessary to navigate the complex licensing process and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
